Sending money to Bangladesh from the US: how the options compare

Sending from the US has one advantage most countries do not: a federal rule makes every provider show you, before you pay, exactly how many taka will arrive. That makes comparing easy. Here is how to use it.

The rule that makes comparing easy

Under the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's remittance transfer rule, a company sending money abroad for you must show, before you pay, the exchange rate, its fees and the total the recipient will receive. That last figure is the one to compare. You can also cancel within 30 minutes of paying, for a full refund, as long as the money has not yet been collected or paid into the account, and the company must investigate if the money does not arrive.

Which companies can pay into bKash changes. bKash publishes its own list of partners by sending country, with companies such as Remitly, Wise, Western Union, MoneyGram, Ria and Taptap Send on it as of November 2026. Check the app offers bKash or Nagad for a sender in the US before you start.

What to compare before you send

  • The total to be received, in taka, on each company's disclosure for the same amount in dollars.
  • How it is received: a wallet for speed and small regular amounts, a bank account for large ones, cash pickup for family with neither.
  • The weekend. Banks in Bangladesh close on Friday and Saturday, and US banks on Saturday and Sunday, so a bank deposit sent on a Thursday can wait until Sunday or later. Wallet transfers usually arrive any day.
  • Limits. bKash says up to Tk 2,50,000 can be received in one transaction under Bangladesh Bank rules.
  • Licensing. Money transmitters are licensed by each US state. You can look a company up on NMLS Consumer Access.

The 2.5% government incentive

Bangladesh adds a 2.5% cash incentive to money sent home through legal channels, paid to your family on arrival by the receiving bank or wallet; the government said in its June 2026 budget that it will continue. How it is paid, the limits on bKash and what taking the cash out costs are explained in receiving money from abroad in Bangladesh.

Questions people ask

Can I cancel a money transfer to Bangladesh after paying?

Usually yes, within 30 minutes of paying, for a full refund, as long as the money has not been collected or deposited. That is a federal rule for transfers sent from the US.

What is the cheapest way to send money from the USA to Bangladesh?

It changes, so compare the "total to recipient" that each company must show before you pay, for the same amount in dollars. The highest figure is the cheapest for you.

Can I send money to bKash from the US?

Yes. Several transfer companies pay into bKash accounts from the US; bKash lists its partners by country on its own site.
