Sending money to Bangladesh from Singapore: how the options compare

Many Bangladeshis in Singapore send money home every month, from a remittance shop or an app on the phone. The cheapest is the one that puts the most taka in your family's hands that day. Here is how the choices compare.

The ways money goes from Singapore to Bangladesh

WayHow the family receives itWatch for
Singtel Dash (Dash Remit), in the Dash appA bank account, a mobile wallet such as bKash, or cash pickupIts own daily and monthly limits, which differ for Work Permit holders
Transfer apps (Wise, Remitly and others)A bank account, bKash, or cash pickup, depending on the appThe exchange rate each one gives, not only the fee
A licensed remittance shopA bank account, bKash or cash pickupThe rate on the board that day; compare it with an app

Compare the final taka that will arrive for the same amount in Singapore dollars. A low fee with a weak exchange rate can cost more than a higher fee with a good one.

Check the company is licensed

Companies that send money abroad from Singapore must be licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). You can look any company or shop up in MAS's Financial Institutions Directory. Wise, for example, is licensed as a Major Payment Institution. An unlicensed agent, or hundi, has no protection if the money disappears.

What else to check

  • Limits. Apps set daily and monthly limits, and some set different ones for Work Permit holders. Check them before a large transfer, such as for a wedding or a house.
  • The weekend. Singapore's weekend is Saturday and Sunday; Bangladesh's banks close on Friday and Saturday. A bank deposit sent late in the week can wait days; a wallet transfer usually arrives any day.
  • bKash limits. bKash says up to Tk 2,50,000 can be received in one transaction under Bangladesh Bank rules.

The 2.5% government incentive

Bangladesh adds a 2.5% cash incentive to money sent home through legal channels, paid to your family on arrival by the receiving bank or wallet; the government said in its June 2026 budget that it will continue. How it is paid, the limits on bKash and what taking the cash out costs are explained in receiving money from abroad in Bangladesh.
