Check the provider is licensed
Remittance companies in Malaysia must be licensed by Bank Negara Malaysia, which publishes the list of licensed money services businesses. An unlicensed agent has no protection if the money disappears.
What else to check
- The weekend. Most of Malaysia rests on Saturday and Sunday and Bangladesh's banks on Friday and Saturday, so a bank transfer sent on a Friday can wait until Sunday. A few Malaysian states have a Friday weekend instead. Wallet transfers usually arrive any day.
- bKash limits. bKash says up to Tk 2,50,000 can be received in one transaction under Bangladesh Bank rules; some apps set lower limits of their own.
- The 2.5% incentive. Bangladesh adds 2.5% on arrival to money sent through legal channels; hundi gets none. How it is paid, and what cash-out costs: receiving money from abroad in Bangladesh.
