CelcomDigi vs Maxis vs U Mobile vs Unifi: which Malaysian network?

Malaysia's networks have moved around a lot in the last year. In Opensignal's latest report U Mobile won the most awards, CelcomDigi kept the best coverage and Unifi led for video and games. Here is the detail.

Updated

What the July 2026 test found

NetworkWhat it led in Opensignal's July 2026 report
U MobileMost awards (five outright, three shared): download and upload speed, consistent quality, 5G availability; joint first for reliability
CelcomDigiCoverage (8.8 out of 10); joint first for reliability
Unifi MobileVideo, games and voice app experience; joint first for reliability
MaxisSee the report for its scores

The report covers April to June 2026. Eight months earlier, in November 2025, Unifi had won the most awards, so the order is changing quickly as 5G rolls out.

Cheaper brands

Each big network also sells cheaper or app-only plans: Hotlink is Maxis's prepaid brand, and Yoodo is CelcomDigi's app-based brand. Others, such as Tune Talk, rent space on a big network.

What to check for your own use

  • Coverage where you live and work, especially outside Kuala Lumpur and on construction or plantation sites, where it differs most. That is CelcomDigi's strength.
  • Data. Calling apps work over mobile data in Malaysia, so for calling family in Bangladesh, enough data matters more than minutes.
  • Prepaid or postpaid. Prepaid suits most workers and needs only your passport to register.
