The ways money goes from Australia to Bangladesh
| Way | How the family receives it | Typical speed | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| A transfer app (Wise, Remitly, WorldRemit, ACE Money Transfer, OrbitRemit and others) | A bank account, bKash, or cash pickup, depending on the app | Minutes to a day | The exchange rate each one gives, not only the fee |
| A money transfer company's app or counter (Western Union, Ria) | Cash pickup, a bank account or bKash | Often minutes | Costs can differ between paying online and at a counter |
| Your Australian bank (an international transfer) | A bank account only | One to several business days | The exchange rate markup |
bKash lists the companies that can pay into a bKash account, by sending country, on its own site; companies such as Wise, Remitly, Western Union, Ria and WorldRemit advertise bKash delivery from Australia as of November 2026. Check the app offers bKash or Nagad before you set up the transfer.
Check the provider is registered
Anyone sending money abroad for others in Australia must be registered with AUSTRAC, the financial intelligence agency. You can check a name on AUSTRAC's Remittance Sector Register before you send.
What else to check
- The weekend. Bangladesh's banks close on Friday and Saturday and Australia's on Saturday and Sunday. Because Australia is ahead in time, a Friday transfer to a bank can wait until Sunday in Bangladesh. Wallet transfers usually arrive any day.
- Limits. bKash says up to Tk 2,50,000 can be received in one transaction under Bangladesh Bank rules.
- The 2.5% incentive. Bangladesh adds 2.5% on arrival to money sent through legal channels; hundi gets none. How it is paid, and what cash-out costs: receiving money from abroad in Bangladesh.
