Comparison sites and their alternatives

There is no single best comparison site, because "compare" means different things. A specification sheet, a list of alternatives, a pile of reviews and a verdict for your situation are four different tools. This page says which is which.

Questions people ask

What is the best comparison site?

It depends on the question. For two phones' specifications, a specification database. For "what else is like this app", an alternatives directory. For "which of these should I choose, given what I need", a comparison that takes your situation into account and shows where its facts came from.

Is compare⁄io a comparison site or an alternatives site?

A comparison site. It does not hold a catalogue: you name the two to six things you are choosing between, and it researches them with a live web search when you ask. If you do not yet know what your options are, ask the follow-up chat under any comparison to suggest others.
